FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF ATHENS

Since 1876

First Christian Church has provided a place of worship, love, and service to God for the Athens community and beyond.

Since 1915, our ministry has been based at 268 West Dougherty St., on the west side of downtown Athens. “All are welcome here” our marquee reads, and we mean it!

We are a faith community focused on worshiping God, the study of scripture, prayer, theological diversity, Christian hospitality, and reaching out in service.

The next 100 years will be filled with creative worship, reaching out and giving back to our community and beyond. Join us as we live, learn, and laugh together!

Our Vision

Is to glorify Jesus Christ by being a community where people are united in love, spiritually passionate, challenged intellectually, and committed through service to the common task of building the Kingdom of God.

We live this vision by

Loving God with our full selves, loving others through our outreach and care, and loving ourselves by asking questions and learning. We are a church that strives to focus outwardly and share our faith with others while learning and growing in faith together.

We are part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

We are a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. We want to bring all of God's children together to make the world a better place. We value thinking over blind beliefs, disagreeing agreeably, and sharing the communion table with ALL of God's creation. For more information about our denomination, click here

We like the tough questions

Thinking critically is part of our call as Christ's followers. We value learning from one another, challenging ourselves and our community, respecting a diversity of interpretation, and developing a deep faith.
